Philip Massey Working hard for you and our community in Balderstone & Kirkholt
Rochdale Labour council’s £740,000 project to improve sporting facilities at Balderstone Park is underway.
The first phase, an extension to Balderstone Library has now started. The extension will feature:
- Home and away changing rooms for two new football pitches
- A community / club room
- and a cafe.
The cash injection has come from Section 106 contributions taken from developers on Ginnell Farm, Dean Farm, and the former Balderstone School. With the shortfall met by the council. These funds have to be used to improve sports and leisure facilities, and will provide a real boost to our park and the local community.
I met the contractors from B&E Boys at the site today, and progress is good so far. Foundations should be poured on schedule in the next few weeks.
Sport England and the Lancashire FA, along with local residents and sports clubs, all told us that there was a demand for more youth football facilities in the area. When complete, Balderstone & Kirkholt will have some outstanding sporting facilities that will benefit a whole generation of footballers and future athletes.
