Speed Operation on Queensway, Oldham Road and Queen Victoria Street
Philip arranged with neighbourhood police teams for a speed operation to take place at multiple points in the ward today.
Fixed penalty notices were issued for a range of offences including speeding, driving without a seat belt, and using a phone whilst driving. The neighbourhood police team will be repeating these operations as regularly as possible, at different times and in different places.
Sadly they have to fit these operations in around their other duties. It’s a reflection of the damage done by ten years of cuts to police funding which was started by the Lib Dem / Tory coalition government. With 2000 less officers and 1000 less support staff in GMP, speeding is a boroughwide problem.
